Halloween and our trip to Ohio

It's been so long since I've posted anything on my little blog.... I thought that I'd finally start writing again.
Let's start with Halloween! Layla, my oldest daughter, wanted to be a go-go dancer. Matilda, the youngest, wanted to be a butterfly (although I just bought her a fairy costume and it had wings..... it worked out okay!). You wouldn't believe how far those two kids walked to get their free candy!!! They're definitely troopers!

Two days after Halloween, we were on our way to Ohio for a two week visit. You have no idea how happy I was to finally go back up north and feel some of that fall weather! I actually got to wear a jacket! Plus, seeing all our family and friends was awesome!

My dad is always so excited to see the girls- we spend hours at the park with him!

Now it's Thanksgiving day..... I cannot believe how fast this year has gone by! Christmas is only a few weeks away..... I'm so excited to start decorating the house and putting up a tree..... AND wrapping pretty presents!!

It only took about a year.....

but I finally managed to get some new clutches in my shop. Well, right now it's just one new clutch, but I'll be working like a busy bee this week to get a wider spectrum of colors in my shop.

So here it is! (Really, it isn't groundbreaking, but it's quite pretty!)

Of course, it's in gray- that really seems to be my favorite color these days. You can find it here in my shop.

On another note, I just got in a picture of some of my clutches in action (at the cutest wedding EVER!!)- All of the pictures taken at the wedding are quite incredible, but here's one of my favorites:

Aren't the girls adorable???? I really couldn't have asked for better models! :) Thanks again Jamie!

My new wish list

I've been spending way too much time on esty drooling over things that I think that I need (but probably don't)...... I'm saving all of them for my Christmas wish list:

The cutest coffee mug (plus it's 3D which I think is sooo cool!)..... and I can never have too many coffee cups! You can find it here.

Amy, over at PonderandStitch, was showing off this fantastic calender- I think I need one!!! LittleBrownPen has a great shop!!!

I love Margot from The Royal Tenenbaums!!! Plus all of Nan Lawson's prints are super cute and fun.

This one probably can't even wait until Christmas- since I'm a terrible cook, this is one thing that I buy on a regular basis (and it never lasts long in my house!)- I love the simplistic label- plus the shop name: JamGeek makes me want to buy from him even MORE!!

it's time for a sale!

It's about that time of year before it gets super busy on etsy..... so I thought that this would be the perfect time for a sale!!

All my ruffle clutches are marked down to $18.00 (they're usually $25.00)- so take advantage while you can!!

Everything is in my sale section right now!

Youtube made me happy this week....

I never cared for this song at all until I saw this earlier in the week.

Notice how the guy look disturbingly like Ben Affleck....
They do a couple of other covers that I love- definitely worth checking out!!

Something that always cheers me up....

It's been a long time....... but I thought that I'd post a little something before I get back to sewing.

Here's something that always cheers me up. Enjoy!

If you haven't seen Wristcutters, it's a must see (especially if you're a Tom Waits fan!).

Books

I love books. When I say love, I mean LOVE!!! We have so many in our house that we're running out of room to put them.... they're everywhere. I've always been an avid reader- my mother used to always scold me for reading at the dinner table (and everywhere else you can think of)- I'll read basically anything that you recommend or set in front of me. And I'll always finish a book, no matter how awful it is. Because you never know, it might get better.

Anyhow..... the point of this particular blog is to share with you one of my prized possessions.

I am a HUGE Kurt Vonnegut fan. As in, I would have left my husband for him (though poor Kurt is dead now, and he would have been older than the hills, I still would have ran off with him). As in, I cried the day I found out he died. As in, I own every single book that he has ever written. LOVE!!!

So, I know that a lot of people have summer reading lists and they like the share the good, the bad, and the very very horribly written. Here we go..... (although I might leave some out due to my dark secret of reading fluff- okay, it's not so much a secret now.).....

Magical Thinking by Augustin Burroughs: I've read this multiple times before and I just keep going back to it. It's filled with short memoir stories that are hilarious, shocking, crass, and snarky. This is the guy that wrote Running with Scissors, in which someone turned into a horrible movie. This book is not for the faint hearted.

Spooky Little Girl by Laurie Notaro: Now, I love Laurie Notaro. A lot. The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Guide changed my life (thank you Emily!). I then went on to read all of her other books- look them up- I seriously almost peed my pants reading them. So when I picked up this book I knew that it was a fiction (unlike her other books, except for There's a Slight Chance I Might Be Going To Hell- equally hilarious!), and thought, this is for sure going to be a winner. I've got to tell you, I was a bit disappointed, but it has a pretty funny storyline. And you still get your Laurie Notaro humor.

Shit My Dad Says by Justin Halpern: I stumbled across a mention of this book on Facebook of all places. Basically, this is what it is. A 29 year old man loses his apt due to circumstances I will not mention and has to move back in with his 74 year old dad. He writes down what his dad says. That is the entire premises of the book, and I've got to tell you that I've NEVER, and I mean NEVER, laughed so hard in my entire life. All you have to do is google the title of this book to get a preview and then you will immediately have to run out and buy it.

Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen: I actually picked this one out just because I liked the cover of the book. I do this sometimes..... yeah, it's risky, but I usually luck out. I would have to say that this is by far the best book that I've read all summer. I read it in about 2 hours. I could NOT put it down. It is that good. Do you like the circus, the 1930's, trains, animals, love, disaster, and flashbacks in books? Then this one is for you. Also, it includes old photos of the circus in the past (mostly Ringling stuff, but some other shots that are interesting). LOVE THIS BOOK. Apparently, they are making a movie about it- which I will not see.

I Drink For a Reason by David Cross: I love Arrested Development. I love David Cross. But I have to tell you that this book is a piece of crap and a waste of money.

So, I think that this is by far the most substantial post I've written- my children are now screaming in the background, so I should probably bow out now.....

Can you believe all these kids???

My two little girls went down to Florida earlier this month (for a whole two weeks!) to visit Grandma. We took that time to renovate their bathroom (for the most part... there's still little things to fix up) and slack off. Like sleep until 3pm just because we could (when I say we, I mean me!).

Anyhow, my husband and I drove down there to pick them up and my sister brought over her brood of kids. There are six of them- I know when I tell my friends this, they do a double take. But it's completely different actually seeing it.

Here they are, all the grandkids....

So, there we have it.... in order from left to right.....Layla (my oldest at 7 years old) holding Ariana (my sister's youngest at 6 months), Jaden (my sister's oldest at 4 years old), Preston (my sister's oldest boy at 3 years old), Braylen (my sister's again.... he's standing in the back- he's about 13 months old..... I can't really keep track), Avery- wearing all the anti-drowning swimwear (my sister's other boy at 2 years old), Mattie (my youngest at 3 years old), and Jordan (my sister's other girl at 3 years old).

Can you believe it? I can't. Swimming with eight kids was stressful. Especially since most of them cannot swim and my husband kept trying to get pictures of me in a swimsuit (sorry, buddy- it's just not happening.).

The money pit

All of my friends know that my husband and I bought a house last year..... and it seems that we have bought the dreaded money pit. I KNEW we should have bought that other house that was only 10 grand more and didn't need any work! :)

So for the last year we've been fixing this poor old house up. Honestly, I can't believe what a fresh coat of paint can do! But the bathrooms, oh you poor bathrooms.... I didn't mean to yell at you, I swear that I didn't mean to hurt your feelings when I started crying when the wallpaper wouldn't come off. But we're almost there. The end is in sight. We've finished with the bedrooms:

(Layla's room)

(Mattie's room)

(my bedroom)

We ripped up the carpeting from the living room and hallways and put in hardwood. Let's just say that I really really don't miss all that vacuuming!

And the front yard was scary. Talk about overgrown plants (which were all mismatched and evil!!! evil evil scary plants)......... a plumbing leak, and a barren front porch....

We are almost finished with the front bathroom- I just need to caulk, put up one more coat of paint, and hang some pictures. (Then I can show you how pretty it turned out!). Also, grouting sucks and I'm never attempting that again. :)

new giveaway!

I know that I've really been slacking off with my blog- We're (my husband and I) are fixing up our house and with summer coming up and my oldest daughter getting out of school soon it has been absolutely insane around here!!

So, as I promised.... a giveaway! Rules are pretty easy (like usual)- just add a comment to this post and you MUST be a follower on my blog. :)

You're asking yourself.... "What is this crazy girl giving away this time around??"..... well, it's on of my favorite things: a wallet! They're so cute and fun AND functional. Who wouldn't want one???

This one is up for grabs:

The last day of the giveaway is going to be May 28th! So that gives you two whole weeks to enter and tell all of your fabulous friends about it.

I know that I've promised....

another giveaway....

But there has been just too much going on to even think about that right now (maybe in another week).

We've been preparing our house so we can put it up for sale this fall, which means new roofing, hardwood flooring, lots of painting, and tearing up our hall bathroom to make it look decent. (pictures will be coming soon).

We've had a heck of a time trying to plant grass in the backyard, but it's slowly coming along- thank goodness! We re-vamped the front porch so it looks nice, and I planted some flowers in some planters. We finally don't have the crappiest house on the block!

Along with fixing up the house (oh, did I mention that stripping cabinets sucks?), Layla's 7th birthday is on Monday, so I've been preparing for that too. Boy, time sure does fly by when there's so much to do!

How I love this

I always feel so honored when I'm put in a treasury. It always makes my day a little brighter. Also, these folks are so talented putting them together. I'm sure if I ever tried to make one it would turn out to be a mishmashed (is that even a word??? lol) mess!

And it's my favorite clutch. I know that I say that everything that I make is my favorite, but I really think that this one is my favorite one- that gray color just goes with everything (plus, I'm in a gray phase right now- LOVE the gray!!!!).

This week

was filled with cutting down a lot of stuff in my backyard. If you go back a few posts, you'll see some of the before pictures (they aren't actually before pictures since we cleaned up the yard a bit before they were taken, but you get the idea.).

I got to use a chainsaw for the first time (only for about 5 minutes before it was taken away- I'm pretty accident prone)- and it felt awesome!

This is my husband appearing to be manly. :)

This is Jesse (my husband) and Mark (my dad's partner) tearing stuff down. My dad, the kids and I all sat on the porch and watched. It was good entertainment.

That's Mattie (with her little puppy Sugar), my dad, and Layla (my oldest daughter with her puppy Pepper).

It was a wonderful week filled with yard work, a lot of sewing (work), and my dad's incredibly wonderful food (which I miss SOOOOOO much!).

Now we have a ton of brush that's going to be disposed of this weekend. That should be fun. Who wants to help???

Monday, March 22, 2010

it's been a long long time

But I made front page today! Hooray!!!!!

I think it's been a good six months since this has happened. It always makes my day!!

I saw James Brown

I've done what every person in Augusta has done- taken a picture of the statue of Mr James Brown. I feel as though my life is finally complete. At least this chapter of living in the crappiest city that I've ever lived in.

Don't I look thrilled??? I think it's because Master's week (some stupid golf thing) is coming up soon.

This is my top secret friend who will not be named. Yes, it looks like he was in Augusta, but I assure you that he wasn't. Let's just call him Nick.

On to some other news, it's spring (or close enough). I'm marking all scarves in my shop half off. 15 bucks for a scarf isn't too bad of a deal, and everyone knows that they should start their holiday shopping early. :)

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

now on sale!!!!

I just wanted to share some love and let everyone know that I've moved some newer wallets and scarves into my sale section!

15-20 bucks now!

Only 10.00

In a blog.... I think that this might be a first for me! Hooray!

http://onecraftyfox.blogspot.com/

cleaning our scary yard

Here's some major progress that we've made since my friend came into town. In all seriousness, the yard was a disaster area and you wouldn't believe the amount of crap that we have torn down, disposed of, raked up, and given away to people that love broken shit that is falling apart.... go figure.

This is the stump that I hate and will be killing this weekend.

Just a small bit of trash that we've found. Note all the randomness.

Layla helping clean up the "Scary Shed".

The "Scary Shed" that I refuse to tear down. I just think it looks kind of cool. My husband disagrees.

This weekend we will be taking down trees, tilling the lawn and planting grass. It's going to rock. Thinking back...... now I know why we got this house for so cheap.
